An explanation and advice about ways to use that the Community Language Learning method. I am taking a specialty and need to know concerning the Community Language Learning method. About it. Could you be so kind as to help me locate it? I'd enjoy this very much. Monica - Community Language Learning is among the designer methods of language acquisition which forms part of the Humanistic Approach and arose in the 1970. The key features of those methodologies is they flout orthodox language teaching, they've a guru, plus they all developed from outside language teaching. Additionally, they emphasise the responsibility for their own learning and prescriptive.
CLL's founder figure has been Charles Curran. The key idea is the students determine what's to be learned, so the tutor is a believer and provides support. There is a small tape recorder within the circle. The teacher stands outside the circle. When a pupil has decided they need to say some thing they call over the Knower and whisper what they'd like to say, in their mother tongue. The coach, also in a whisper provides the equivalent utterance in English. The student tries to repeat the utterance, with reinforcement from the Knower. The pupil records the utterance when the Knower is fulfilled.
Until there is a sort of dialogue another student then repeats the process. The Knower transcribes it, and replays the recording. This is followed by investigation, and queries from students. Gradually, the students spin a network of language. Space doesn't let me describe in detail the emotional system around which CLL is based, but basically, that the learner is supposed to move from a point of total dependence on the Knower in the starting to a point of independent autonomy in the end, passing through 5 developmental phases on the way. The pupils have to share one competent mother tongue. The teacher has to be extremely proficient in that the target language and in that the language of that the pupils. The tutor also has to have huge reserves of energy both physical and psychic.
